Firestone Walker

A digital first brand refresh

for the pioneers of craft brewing.

Firestone Walker is a brewery located on the central coast of California. With three restaurants and a state of the art brewery, Firestone Walker has a long established name in the industry. I was fortunate to hold the position of Creative Director at a pivotal time to drive the digital transformation of a such heritage brand.

While working in-house, I created an aggressive schedule of photo and video shoots using both internal and external partners to generate an ecosystem worth of content at an accelerated pace. As lifestyle photo and video content started to roll in, I worked tirelessly to develop a wireframe design system and branded typographic language that could support both of Firestones vastly different identities.

Next we located an external development team to build our website functionality as well as create a custom CMS system for easy updating. Together, we modernized the brand's visual language while creating an experience that showcases lifestyle and supports the unique stories of each of the brand’s iconic varieties.

A lifestyle forward approach

The Firestone Walker website is about more than just beer. Because an unforgettable experience is born from impactful moments, we curated solid product imagery and stunning lifestyle photography, pairing it with delightfully timed animations for a unique and interactive experience.

Surfacing the spirit of a brand

Storytelling is incredibly important in showcasing the spirit of a brand. With this in mind, we set out to dedicate a section of the site as the home for Firestone Walker's episodic lifestyle film series. The “Stories” tab features a scratch built blog and features Firestone Walker's brand ambassadors who embody the adventurer spirit at its core. The story continues on the “About Us” page, where we brought the brand's California heritage to life, featuring its commitment to sustainability.

A visual platform with scalability in mind

We crafted a flexible platform with a variety of sub-brands in mind. Every featured beer has its own distinct persona, and we worked through the challenge to capture them all in the best light possible, resulting in a rewardingly intuitive interface and simplified reading experience.

805 Beer

Elevating an experience

for an iconic California beer company.

805 beer, a sub-brand of Firestone Walker, has grown to be one of the most successful craft beers on the West Coast. Embracing its California roots, the brand showcases the raw culture of skate, surf and alternative lifestyles.

After building a flexible framework for the above parent brand, we were able to utilize the existing components while modernizing the look and feel and optimizing the back end for easy publishing.

Beyond the beer, 805 is deeply in tune with people of the central coast. We built a destination where stories can be shared, and individuals can be celebrated. With a marriage of culture and product we now have a home for films and articles, where lifestyle bleeds through every page.

Capturing the heritage

of California craft

Telling the stories of Authenticos is about honoring the rugged individualism in the Central Coast. Growing up here, we were able to bring out the life in the brand to excite the audience with a visually dialed structure for viewers to discover content.
